Where to board in Peniche for the Berlengas
Peniche is a small peninsula and the harbour is a step from the centre, but not every boat leaves from the same place: it depends on who you booked with. And since the boat has a fixed time and a cap, arriving late means losing the day.
With the ferry company (Viamar): Cais da Ribeira
All its crossings leave from Cais da Ribeira in Peniche. They ask you to arrive 20 minutes before departure and say “parking is available”. The coordinates they publish: 39°35′N 9°22′W.
With Civitatis: Peniche marina
The ferry and the caves trip meet at Peniche marina, and the listing warns that “depending on the date and time selected, your meeting point may vary”: check your voucher. The snorkelling leaves from Casal da Ponte (Atouguia da Baleia), where the kit is handed out before going to the harbour.
From Lisbon
Peniche lies north of Lisbon, up the coastal motorway, and it is the classic day trip from the capital. For the 10:00 boat you need to leave Lisbon early; with the 12:00 (summer and weekends) it is more relaxed and you are back at 18:00, in time for dinner in Lisbon. We do not publish drive times or bus timetables because we have not verified them: check the journey with your navigation app the night before and add the 20-minute boarding margin.
Before leaving home
Have your BerlengasPass and the €3 fee sorted, the ticket on your phone, water and sun cream (there is no shade on the island), and check the wind: it is 45 minutes of Atlantic and with a swell the crossing rolls. If you get seasick, take a tablet before boarding and sit at the back.
